at Zoe's Place

On April 23, Women United Members and friends gathered at the Cupcake Cafe at 740 Chestnut Avenue in Teaneck.  Jane, Miriam and the rest of the dedicated individuals involved with Zoe's Place have been working tirelessly to renovate the space and make it ready for opening (probably sometime in May).  The Cafe is located on a wonderful pedestrian connection to Cedar Lane and is conveniently located next to a Municipal Parking lot.  The Cafe has a lovely bow window and new wood floors and is now a welcoming shade of pale yellow, thanks in part to member Cindy Bonura who helped with the painting.

The industrial oven and mixer have arrived and are ready for pastry chef, Kimberly to work her magic.  She brought some cupcake samples for us to try in vanilla with butter cream and red velvet with cream cheese frosting - delicious!  Thanks to everyone who brought a “shower” gift that night.  Kim now has a great start to her kitchen supplies from Chef Central.

Zoe's Place is well ahead of where we thought they would be in our grant process.  We had hoped they would have a location by the end of the year and here they are soon to open.  They are working so hard and are making our grant dollars stretch as far as possible through hours of volunteer labor.  As soon as we know when they plan to open, we’ll let you all know so you can visit and enjoy a fabulous cupcake and a cup of coffee.

Here are 2 ways that you can help with Zoe’s and the Cupcake Café:

Immediately, they are looking for someone who can assist them with their web page development.  They are losing the person who started the page which you can see at www.zoesplaceinc.org.  If you are interested in helping with this, contact Jane Fiedler at 201-655-0212 or jfiedler519@yahoo.com.

Once the Cupcake Café opens, they may need some volunteers to help staff the café until things begin to get rolling.  We’ll let you know when this opportunity happens!

Thanks again for your continued support of Zoe’s Place!

 Warmest regards, Maxine
