The Power of the Purse

The Power of the Purse: Turning Knowledge into Action

Women United in Philanthropy's 1st Annual Educational Symposium focused on the needs of women in Bergen County.  Mary Ellen Schoonmaker, Editorial Writer and Columnist at the Record, was the opening speaker of the event and she spoke about  "invisible women" who need support in our society but are often overlooked.

Four panel discussions were held focusing on WUiP's beliefs that women and their children should have access to affordable housing and affordable healthcare, have the ability to earn a living wage, and know where to turn when the unexpected happens.

Jennifer Velez, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services closed the event with her own personal story of perseverance.
