Annual Grant Process
In 2005, 15 founding members created Women United in Philanthropy. Through personal donations, they established a grant fund aimed at supporting innovative solutions to chronic problems keeping women poor in Bergen County: lack of housing, health care and living wage jobs.
Today, each of our giving circle members donates $1,000 annually, which goes to our pooled grant fund. Every spring, members review and research original proposals that address the problems facing women. Every fall, we select one organization to receive a high impact grant in support of its efforts, awarded from our pooled grant fund. To date, we have given over $835,000 to change the lives of women and girls today and tomorrow—and we don’t plan on stopping.
